Chinese families planning a 2027 wedding almost always check the almanac first. But the process is more interesting — and more personal — than "copy a date from a list."
The layers of a Chinese wedding date
1. The almanac layer — 黄历 Yi/Ji
Every day in the Chinese almanac (黄历) is tagged 宜 (suitable) or 忌 (avoid) for specific activities. For weddings the key tag is 宜嫁娶 ("suitable for marriage"). Days without it are traditionally avoided for ceremonies. The almanac also marks days like 破日 (break days) and 四离四绝 (season-transition days) — universally avoided for weddings.
2. The family layer — year clashes
The couple's zodiac signs are checked against the wedding day's earthly branch. A day whose branch clashes (冲) with the bride or groom's birth year is avoided — tradition holds the year-clash touches the family foundation. Some families also avoid days clashing with the parents' zodiacs.
3. The personal layer — the couple's own BaZi
The most thorough families don't stop at the almanac. A proper 择日 (date selection) takes the bride and groom's full BaZi charts and picks a day whose elements support them both — a day of Water for a couple whose charts need Water, for example. This is why "the best 2027 wedding dates" lists you see online are only a starting point.
How to pick your 2027 date
- Filter by the almanac. Start from days marked 宜嫁娶 in 2027, avoiding 破日 and 四离四绝.
- Cross-check zodiacs. Drop days whose branch clashes with the couple's (or parents') birth years. In 2027 — a 丁未 (Fire Goat) year — days with 牛 (Ox) branches get special attention, since 未 and 丑 clash.

A note on 2027
2027 is a 丁未 year — the year of the Fire Goat. The wedding-date logic above applies every year; what changes is which specific days carry the 嫁娶 tag. Rather than trust a static list (which can't account for your zodiacs anyway), filter live almanac data for your family's specific clashes.
